How does Unisom® SleepGels® work? (mechanism of action)
Unisom® SleepGels® contains diphenhydramine HCl. It works by blocking the effects of a naturally occurring neurotransmitter your body makes called histamine. When histamine is reduced, you experience drowsiness, which allows you to fall asleep faster and stay asleep.
Can I cut a SoftGel in half? Also, can I take half a pill?

Can I take more than 1 SoftGel at a time? If I take more product, will it work faster / better?
For adults and children 12 years of age and over, 1 softgel should be taken at bedtime if needed, or as directed by a doctor. Do not exceed labeled dosing. Use only as directed.

Like SleepGels®, Minis®, and Melts®, Unisom® PM Pain contains diphenhydramine, but it also contains 200mg of acetaminophen to address minor pain while you sleep. Unisom Simple Slumbers® is drug-free, and contains 5 mg of melatonin, plus passionflower, lemon balm, and Vitamin B6. All Unisom® products help you get to sleep faster. Can I use Unisom® SleepGels® for allergies?
No. Your Unisom® nighttime sleep aid is just that: a nighttime sleep aid. Although the active ingredient is an antihistamine, the dosing frequency and directions may differ between its sleep-aid use and the allergy use. Therefore, it is advised you speak to your doctor or healthcare professional regarding allergy symptoms.
Can I take Unisom® every night?
Unisom® is for occasional sleeplessness only. If your sleeplessness persists for more than two weeks, consult your doctor. Sleeplessness may be a symptom of serious underlying medical illness.
